Neonatal sepsis and death after multiple courses of antenatal betamethasone therapy
Article Abstract:
Multiple doses of corticosteroids given to pregnant women in premature labor may be harmful to the fetus. Corticosteroids are usually given to these women to help the baby's lungs mature. Many doctors continue to give the woman weekly doses if she does not deliver within a few days of the first dose.

Neonatal sepsis after betamethasone administration to patients with preterm rupture of membranes
Article Abstract:
Multiple doses of betamethasone in pregnant women with premature rupture of the membranes appears to increase the risk of infection in the fetus. Betamethasone is often used in premature labor to prevent lung disease in the baby. This benefit may be offset by the increased risk of infection.

Recent indomethacin tocolysis is not associated with neonatal complications in preterm infants
Article Abstract:
The drug indomethacin does not appear to adversely affect the fetus when used to stop premature labor. This was the conclusion of a study of 225 pregnant women who delivered within 48 hours of receiving indomethacin.
