New Horizons in the Treatment of Osteoarthritis of the Knee
Article Abstract:
Several promising techniques are available for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is characterized by a loss of collagen in joints. The body tries to repair the damage, but the repaired tissue is not as strong as the original tissue. Symptoms of osteoarthritis include joint pain, usually worse with use and eliminated by rest, and joint stiffness after extended rest. If patients do not experience pain relief from drugs, they can receive cartilage transplants, bone grafts, or injections of hyaluronic acid in the joint. All three treatments are effective in the short term, but more research is needed on long-term benefits.

The Role of Knee Alignment in Disease Progression and Functional Decline in Knee Osteoarthritis
Article Abstract:
A knee that is not in a straight line between the hip and ankle is more likely to develop osteoarthritis, according to a study of 237 people. This misalignment places more stress on the knee joint than on a normally aligned knee.
