Many factors such as rapid urbanization, global trade and marketing, and changing family structures, are rapidly changing the health patterns of the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) must realign itself to work with all sectors of society because good world health depends on everyone.

The World Health Organization and UNESCO will focus in 1996 on issues pertaining to the interdependence of culture and health. Only by considering cultural perceptions of health can these organizations win the participation and support of those they seek to serve.
