New simple, inexpensive test accurately detects E. coli O157
Article Abstract:
Biochemist C. Gerald Crawford has developed a test that identifies Escherichia coli in food products. The test utilizes magnetic beads coated with with anti-E. coli O157 antibodies and ruthenium-labeled antibodies that detects the presence of E. coli through a chemical reaction. IGEN International Inc, which has patented the equipment and technology, is planning to develop a series of fast, highly sensitive tests for food producers.
