Monitor passes first tests with flying colors
Article Abstract:
A physician and a biocomputation expert have successfully tested a system that can monitor an airplane passenger's vital signs and relay the information to ground-based physicians using the air phones present in many airplanes. The monitor can relay information from an EKG machine as well as blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate, blood oxygen levels, body temperature and lung function. The information is sent to a computer that posts the data on the Internet, where it can be accessed by whatever hospital the airplane is closest to at the time of the emergency.

Home Sample Collection Tests for HIV Infection
Article Abstract:
Home HIV tests may be effective in encouraging high-risk groups to be tested for HIV. Researchers analyzed data from two manufacturers of home HIV tests. A total of 174,316 tests were submitted to these companies during the first year the test was available. Ninety-seven percent of the users called for their test results. About sixty percent had never been tested before. Many belonged to high-risk groups such as gay men, intravenous drug users and certain ethnic groups.
