Nurse heroes of the century
Article Abstract:
The nurse heroine of Kate Adie, chief news correspondent of the British Broadcasting Corporation, is Edith Cavell, an English nurse who was executed by the Germans in 1915, aged 50, for assisting allied servicemen. Adie admires the way Cavell acted despite being aware of the possible outcome. She was also touched by Cavell's declaration that patriotism is insufficient and that she was not bitter and did not hate anyone.
