Develop to survive
Article Abstract:
Theatre nurses find their skills are required both inside and outside the operating theatres as surgeries and clinics develop new procedures requiring surgical intervention. Nursing roles have expanded as junior doctors have reduced their hours and financial management has become vital in sustaining a good service for the patient. At one time the role of the theatre nurse seemed to be disappearing due to the introduction of operating practitioners but recent developments have ensured their continued employment.

Cloaked in a tattered illusion
Article Abstract:
The relationship between the medical profession and patients has changed, and attitudes towards professionalism need to be changed accordingly. The call for nurses to be treated as professionals apparently used to be ignored because nursing was considered women's work and consequently undervalued. Discussions about attitudes towards men and women have only made light of the issue. Issues of gender should be considered very forceful cultural notions.
