Progress towards controlling HIV-associated TB upsurges
Article Abstract:
People who are HIV have an increased chance of developing tuberculosis (TB), due to immunosuppression. Notification of TB in the UK increased by 12% from 1988 to 1992, mainly in areas where there were large numbers of HIV sufferers. HIV patients need to be made aware of the risk of contracting TB, with special emphasis placed on hygiene, diet and living conditions. St Mary's Hospital in London has established a clinic to provide TB/HIV patients with support, medication and education.
