One-year follow-up after multimodal inpatient treatment for cocaine and methamphetamine dependencies
Article Abstract:
The results of aversion therapy as part of a multimodal treatment program for cocaine dependence was analyzed in 156 patients 12 to 20 months posttreatment. Total abstinence was recorded from 53% at one year after treatment while abstinence of at least six months at time of the study was reported by 68.6%. Aversion therapy for both alcohol and cocaine in alcoholics who also use cocaine had 88% abstinence rates while alcoholics who use cocaine and did not receive aversion therapy had 55% abstinence rate. The degree in which the patient has the urge to use cocaine also affected abstinence rates.

Inpatient and outpatient cocaine abusers: clinical comparisons at intake and one-year follow-up
Article Abstract:
Inpatient and outpatient cocaine abusers were compared clinically at enrollment in treament programs and one year postttreatment. The 149 inpatients had more severe problems including heavier drug use, social impairment and psychopathology. One year postttreatment, inpatients had lower problem severity including lower cocaine use and psychopathology as compared to those on outpatient treatment. Thus, hospitalization of these patients were justififed and resulted in better long term efficacy.

The combination of phentermine and fenfluramine reduced cocaine withdrawal symptoms in an open trial
Article Abstract:
Fenfluramine and phentermine have been shown to reduce symptoms of cocaine withdrawal, perhaps because of the dopamine agonist properties phentermine has. Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter in the brain reward system, and its production is stimulated by the combination of phentermine and fenfluramine.
