Out of the shadows
Article Abstract:
MIND, mental health charity, has brought to light several cases of harassment and sexual abuse of mentally-ill women in hospital, and is running a twelve-month campaign, Stress on Women, aimed at improving their care. Stress on Women demands that the harassment of such women and sexual abuse should end, and that they should be permitted to select a female key worker or care manager. In autumn-1992 the charity will start on the second stage of the campaign, focusing on the improvement of child-care for the mentally-ill undergoing treatment. MIND will also encourage local branches to survey admission rates to see if there are any differences between the treatment offered to men and women.

MIND slams plans to jail mental health offenders after treatment
Article Abstract:
The UK government's plans to use hybrid orders which will see mentally ill criminals return to prison after appropriate psychiatric treatment have been criticised by mental health charity MIND. According to the charity, this approach would prevent offenders from returning to the community after their mental condition had been treated. It feels that the main aim of these plans is to punish and control mentally ill criminals, rather than to care for and treat them.
