Article Abstract:
The organisational and financial restructuring of the United Kingdom National Health Service have provided a challenge to the working practices and record keeping of community nurses. Old methods of recording work carried out on a daily basis have proved to be inadequate when presented to funding management. To assist both managers and nurses, a group of district nurses developed 20 care packages which detail the care necessary for certain conditions. They not only include nursing procedures but also additional areas of work undertaken such as preventive medicine.

Survival tactics
Article Abstract:
A health director of a National Health Service Trust explains about the changes which are being made to the services being offered by that trust. Health visiting is to become more targeted towards those in need, such as families with special needs children or at risk of abuse. Clarifying roles will prevent health visitors and district nurses from duplicating their work. Health visitors will have more responsibility, take decisions and be partners within practices. The Trust also plans to respond to views of patients about the service they receive.
