Parting shots
Article Abstract:
The UK Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has had to support the financial reasoning for investment to promote occupational safety and health. However, the basic motivation for health and safety promotion should be humanitarian. The political ethos of the 1980s and 1990s demanded that any action be rooted in financial reasoning, but the time for change has come. Occupationally-related accidents or ill-health occur most amongst groups which are socially and economically disadvantaged, so addressing this issue should form part of a wider policy on social inequality.

Parting Shots
Article Abstract:
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in the United Kingdom is calling for a change in the investigatory procedures following accidents in the workplace. Following an incident where an employee has been injured an inquiry is instigated which can lead to the attribution of blame onto another employee or the company. This method of working tends to preclude full information disclosure as employees are concerned about personal repercussions. Investigators need to be fully trained to ensure a thorough and fair examination of evidence takes place.
