Pathophysiology of anaemia
Article Abstract:
Anaemia that can vary from a mild sub clinical condition to a life-threatening disease shows a global prevalence at 2.1 billion recorded by World Health Organization. Anaemia's three broad categories namely defective red blood cell (RBC) production, increased loss of RBC, and both mechanisms operating simultaneously are explained in brief.

The different types and causes of anaemia, which would help in nurse's management of a diverse group of patients in intensive care, are discussed. The two basic mechanisms of anaemia discussed include loss of red blood cells (RBCs) from circulation and defective or diminished production of RBC's.
