Patterns of constipation in urogynecology: Clinical importance and pathophysiologic insights
Article Abstract:
The prevalence and patterns of constipation in women with urinary symptoms and /or genital prolapse is analyzed. The results indicate that thirty-two percent of women are constipated (172 difficult stool passage, 13 reduced stool frequency, 64 both). No differences of prevalence of constipation were observed for urinary symptoms or urodynamic diagnosis.

The validity of Visual Analog Scales in urogynecologic research is examined. The scale is a simple, reliable and reproducible method for assessing the quality of life in urogynecologic research.
