Pay for performance in commercial HMOs
Article Abstract:
A survey was carried out in relation to health plans that offer commercial health maintenance organization (HMO) products in 40 randomly selected markets (MSAs) in the US. The findings indicated that external pressure from purchasers in the form of performance contracting is an important correlate of pay-for-performance activity, which suggests that Medicare is moving closer to adopting pay for performance for physicians, health plans, and other institutions.
