Pemphigoid: Clinical, Histologic, Immunopathologic, and Therapeutic Considerations
Article Abstract:
Blistering diseases such as pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid are caused by an autoimmune reaction toward proteins in skin. These proteins include those that attach skin cells to the basement membrane and those that attach skin cells to each other. This results in a protective barrier to microorganisms. When this barrier is broken by autoantibodies, blisters occur. The blisters can be painful and disfiguring, and loss of the protective barrier can lead to infection. Most people with blistering diseases are treated with drugs that suppress the immune system.

Implications of Low Diagnostic Reproducibility of Cervical Cytologic and Histologic Diagnoses
Article Abstract:
Criteria for assigning abnormal cervical specimens to specific classification systems must be communicated to all pathologists. A study published in 2001 found that many pathologists did not agree on the classification of over 7,000 cervical specimens.

Interobserver Reproducibility of Cervical Cytologic and Histologic Interpretations: Realistic Estimates From the ASCUS-LSIL Triage Study
Article Abstract:
Different pathologists may interpret the same cervical specimen differently, according to researchers who sent 7,720 specimens to 11 pathologists. This was true regardless of how the specimen was collected.
