Phobias
Article Abstract:
Phobias are irational fears that induce anxiety or panic attacks. Phobic disorders maybe classified as monosympomatic phobias, social phobias or agoraphobia. Monosympomatic phobias are highly specific fears. Social phobias may be caused by a specific fear but may cause withdrawal from social situations. Agoraphobia categorises panic attacks in a variety of situations. Sufferers may fear loss of control or death during periods of extreme anxiety. Psychoanalysts are concerned with interpreting the phobia whereas behaviourists are concerned with the manifestation of the disorder.

Speaking out
Article Abstract:
Mental health nurses should be prepared to publicise conflict between professional codes of conduct and practice. Mental health nursing would be enriched by open debate of ethical issues. For example, community care may result in psychiatric nurses prescribing medication. Ethical issues may be raised by a patient's unwillingness to accept medication. Psychiatric nurses should be critical of accepted practice.
