Physicians seek specifics of opioid use guidelines
Article Abstract:
Doctors who are not specialists in pain treatment should consult an expert before treating a patient with chronic pain, according to guidelines on the use of opioids from the American Pain Society and the American Academy of Pain Medicine. The two groups developed the guidelines to help doctors with appropriate pain treatment and to forestall regulatory intrusion into medical practice. Principles governing the use of opioids are outlined.
