Physiology of aging with respect to gastrointestinal, circulatory and immune system changes and their significance for energy and protein metabolism
Article Abstract:
Research designed to identify age-related changes at the system level that may prompt or explain changes in protein and energy metabolism at the whole body level is presented. Changes at the system level have clear effects on protein and energy needs when the mass represented by the system is changed.

Total energy expenditure in the elderly
Article Abstract:
Research into total energy expenditure (TEE) in the elderly is presented. The age-related decrease in TEE is attributable to reduced physical activity, reduced basal metabolic rate and possibly reduced thermogenesis.
