Plaque Rupture and Sudden Death Related to Exertion in Men With Coronary Artery Disease
Article Abstract:
Exertion probably causes sudden death in some people with coronary artery disease because it causes fatty deposits in the arteries to rupture. The medical term for these fatty deposits is plaque. Researchers examined the coronary arteries of 141 men with coronary artery disease who died suddenly. Twenty-five had died during strenuous activity. Sixty-eight percent of the men who died during exertion had ruptured plaque, compared to 23% of the 116 men who died at rest. High total blood cholesterol levels and low HDL, or 'good' cholesterol blood levels were also associated with plaque rupture.

Invasive pneumococcal disease caused by nonvaccine serotypes among Alaska native children with high levels of 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine coverage
Article Abstract:
The association between the replacement disease and the overall decline in invasive pneumococcal disease among Alaska Native children is investigated. The results have shown that Alaska Native children are experiencing replacement invasive pneumococcal disease with serotypes not covered by heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.
