Predicting mortality among patients hospitalized for heart failure: derivation and validation of a clinical model
Article Abstract:
Researchers have developed a health status indicator that can predict which patients hospitalized for heart failure are likely to die within one year. Risk factors for death included old age, low blood pressure, high respiratory rate, high urea nitrogen level, low sodium levels, and co-existing diseases such as stroke, COPD, liver cirrhosis, dementia, and cancer. Only 8% of the low-risk patients died within one year, compared to 79% of the high-risk patients.

Outcome of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction in a population-based study
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of the epidemiologic features and the effect of patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is conducted and the results are compared with those from patients who had heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. It was found that the number of patients with preserved ejection fraction who survived was the same as that of patients with reduced ejection fraction.
