Urinary angiogenic factors cluster hypertensive disorders and identify women with severe preeclampsia
Article Abstract:
The clustering of hypertensive disorders due to the alterations in urinary levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1) and placental growth factor (PIGF) is examined and women with severe preeclampsia are identified. At the time of clinical manifestation, it is observed that severe preeclampsia (sPE) is associated with increased urinary output of the antiangiogenic factor sFlt-1 and a decreased output of PIGF.

Preeclampsia-like syndrome that is associated with severe hypothyroidism in a 20-week pregnant woman
Article Abstract:
A case report of a rare occurrence of overt hypothyroidism, which was associated with a preeclampsia-like syndrome and intrauterine fetal death in a 37-year-old woman, is presented. Treatment of this condition requires the use of very high doses of levothyroxine together with a rapid loading dose given orally or even intravenously to achieve a normal serum T4 level.
