Presence of cell-free human immunodeficiency virus in cervicovaginal secretions is independent of viral load in the blood of human immunodeficiency virus-infected women
Article Abstract:
The amount of virus found in cervicovaginal secretions of HIV-positive women may not relate to the amount of virus in the blood. Researchers analyzed samples of blood and cervical and vaginal secretions for HIV in 63 women with CD4 cell counts ranging from less than 200 to over 500. Women with no detectable blood levels of free virus in the blood had virus in their cervicovaginal secretions and vice versa. Viral levels also failed to correlate with CD4 counts. This suggests that the factors affecting viral replication differ from tissue to tissue.

Cervicovaginal fetal fibronectin as a marker for preterm delivery: a meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
Fetal fibronectin may be an accurate marker for women at risk of premature delivery. Fetal fibronectin is a produced during most normal pregnancies and can be measured in vaginal secretions. Researchers analyzed 27 studies that evaluated fetal fibronectin as a marker of premature delivery. In women with symptoms of premature labor, fetal fibronectin was very accurate in predicting which women would deliver within seven days.
