Potential consequences of widespread antepartal use of ampicillin
Article Abstract:
The use of ampicillin during pregnancy may cause an increase of neonatal sepsis with organisms resistant to ampicillin. Fifteen of 27 mothers of newborn infants with bacterial sepsis had received ampicillin earlier in the pregnancy. The bacterial organisms in 13 of these 15 infants were ampicillin-resistant. Penicillin G is recommended in place of ampicillin to prevent such group B streptococci.

A randomized clinical trial of daily nonstress testing versus biophysical profile in the management of preterm premature rupture of membranes
Article Abstract:
Neither a daily nonstress test nor measurements of specific biological markers were accurate in predicting which women with premature rupture of membranes would develop an infection. This was the conclusion of researchers who randomly assigned 135 women to receive either test.
