Prevention of premature birth
Article Abstract:
Most treatments aimed at preventing premature birth do not appear to work. This could explain why the incidence of premature birth has not decreased. Premature birth is defined as any birth before 37 weeks of gestation. Many treatments have been evaluated, including risk scoring systems, progestin supplements, nutritional support, tocolytic drugs, best rest, uterine activity monitoring and treatments to prevent preeclampsia. Most of these treatments are not effective. An understanding of the mechanism behind premature birth might lead to effective treatments.

Tympanostomy tubes and developmental outcomes at 9 to 11 years of age
Article Abstract:
A study reports the follow-up developmental findings in a cohort of children in relation to the cumulative duration of middle-ear effusion before the age of 3 years and receipt or non-receipt of tympanostomy tubes. Results reveals that, in otherwise healthy young children with persistent middle-ear effusion, prompt insertion of tympanostomy tubes does not improve developmental outcomes as compared with delayed insertion in children in whom effusion continues unremittingly.

Oxygen-saturation targets and outcomes in extremely premature infants
Article Abstract:
Giving premature babies more oxygen does not appear to improve their outcomes and is very costly, according to a study of 358 babies born at less than 30 weeks. This was done because some studies have shown that these babies still have low blood oxygen levels despite receiving oxygen therapy. However, this study showed that increasing blood oxygen levels did not improve the babies' health.
