Article Abstract:
The relationship between specialists and primary care physicians can be viewed as a customer-supplier relationship that provides both sides with benefits. With the increase in electronic record-keeping, specialists may have to gain entry to the records via primary care physicians, but benefit by reduced costs. Primary care physicians benefit by becoming case managers rather than gatekeepers.
