Professional development: anaemia
Article Abstract:
Anaemia results from a drop in the concentration of haemoglobin in circulating blood and also a reduction in red blood cell count. Causes include haemorrhage, defective red blood cell production, and destruction of red blood cells. Symptoms include fatigue and paleness. The various types of anaemia include iron deficiency; haemoglobinopathies; defects in haem synthesis; and aplastic, haemolytic, dilutional, and megaloblastic anaemia.

The benefits of understanding the pathophysiology of anaemia
Article Abstract:
An article by Campbell illustrates that anaemia of chronic disease is complex in its aetiology and requires correction of multiple abnormalities. The common type of anaemia that many patients experience are megaloblastic, iron deficiency, and haemoylic and can be caused by the side-effects of various drugs like methotexate because of its action on folates.
