Promise and perils for patients and physicians
Article Abstract:
The Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act (MMA) will come into effect on January 1, 2006 for the benefit of 42 million Medicare beneficiaries and their physicians, with most states having roughly 15 plans offered by private companies including different premiums, and copayments. However, certain complexities exist such as patients have to sign up for one of several plans, the failure of which will result in an increment in future premiums for each month of delay.

Dramatic improvement or death spiral: two members of Congress assess the Medicare bill
Article Abstract:

Bush vowed to veto any bill that would limit seniors' choices or take away their drug coverage, thus Congress transformed Medicare, as its core, from a bill-paying program for sick patients to one designed to keep seniors healthy.
