A song for Mrs Smith
Article Abstract:
A first-year student nurse gained confidence from using music therapy with a patient suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The nurse was anxious as she had little experience and had difficulty in communicating with the patient. The patient was agitated and uncooperative with staff. The nurse tried singing to the patient to encourage response. The songs calmed the patient and also stimulated her to sing. The nurse gained satisfaction from establishing communication and allaying her own anxiety.
