Relations between the United States and Cuba: a proposal for action
Article Abstract:
The Pan American Health Organization and other humanitarian organizations should seek to partially lift the US embargo against Cuba to allow the importation of food, medicine and medical supplies. Following the Cuban revolution of 1959, the Cuban health care system was the envy of Latin America. However, since the US economic embargo in 1962, this situation has reversed. Between 1991 and 1993, more than 50,000 Cubans developed optic and peripheral nerve disorders that have been linked to poor nutrition. Mortality rates from childbirth, diarrheal diseases and other infections and parasitic diseases has increased. It seems clear that the Cuban people have suffered the most from the embargo. A partial lifting of the embargo could lead to an improved relationship between the two countries.

Medical treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Article Abstract:
A review on the available evidence-based therapy for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is presented. Findings indicate that despite many advances in the treatment of JIA, there is still a lack of evidence for the treatment of several disease subtypes, and that the treatment plan might need to be individualized based on the JIA subtype.
