Proposal of the Physicians' Working Group for Single-Payer National Health Insurance
Article Abstract:
The Physicians' Working Group for Single-Payer National Health Insurance believes a national health insurance program in the US is the only cost-effective option for providing basic health care to every American. They believe the market-based model has not worked and has only pushed health care costs higher. Meanwhile, over 41 million Americans have no health insurance and many more are underinsured. A national health insurance program would be modeled after Medicare and could save $200 billion annually.

Quality of care for children in commercial and Medicaid managed care
Article Abstract:
Many managed care companies do not provide the same services to children covered by Medicaid as they do to children covered by private health insurance. This was the conclusion of researchers who compared 423 commercial and 169 Medicaid managed care plans using the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS). Children covered by Medicaid were less likely to be vaccinated, to have regular well-child visits and to receive procedures such as ventilation tubes for ear infections.
