Certificate-of-need revival targets doctors
Article Abstract:
Laws requiring a certificate-of-need (CON) before physicians purchase expensive medical equipment now include Pennsylvania's proposal for state approval before expenditures over $2 million. Those in favor of the law claim it gives citizens a voice in control of medical care and lowers costs by encouraging joint ventures. Those opposed contend the CON process adds hundreds of dollars to the cost of buying equipment.

IRS classifies more doctors as employees
Article Abstract:
IRS revisions could result in a loss of doctors' independent contractor status. The status revisions, which could classify many doctors as employees, may result in decreased tax and retirement plan benefits and restrictions on business and personal health care deductions. The IRS rulings are the culmination of redefining initiatives begun in 1992.
