Prospective determination of chorionicity, amnionicity, and zygosity in twin gestations
Article Abstract:
Ultrasound evaluation of twin pregnancies may provide information about the placenta and the fetuses that indicate potential risks. Researchers performed ultrasound examinations of 110 twin pregnancies, and determinations of the number of placentas, the presence of a dividing membrane in the placenta, and whether the twins were identical or fraternal were confirmed after delivery in 100 of the pregnancies. All 76 pregnancies with two placentas were predicted by ultrasound exams. Almost all pregnancies (94.4%) with one placenta were predicted by ultrasound. Ultrasound predictions were fairly accurate even though examinations were performed further into the second trimester than is recommended for accurate results. The use of various ultrasonographic predictors may increase diagnostic accuracy.

Perinatal outcome of spontaneously conceived triplet pregnancies in relation to chorionicity
Article Abstract:
A study aims to determine the perinatal outcome of spontaneously conceived triplet pregnancies in relation to chorionicity. In spontaneously conceived triplets, the incidence of dichorionicity is 44% and the dichorionic triamniotic triplets have a 5.5-fold higher risk of adverse perinatal outcome predominantly due to twin-twin transfusion syndrome and premature rupture of membranes.

Is zygosity or chorionicity the main determinant of fetal outcome in twin pregnancies?
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to examine whether fetal outcome in twin pregnancies is dependant on zygosity or chorionicity. The results reveal that fetal outcome in twin pregnancies is related to chorionicity rather than zygosity.
