Protecting the patient-counseling role
Article Abstract:
Four professors of physician assistant (PA) studies consider how to protect the PA role of patient counselor. This role sets the PA apart from a doctor, since the PA spends more time talking with patients, and the PA is responsible for education and counseling. While this role may be affected by a shift to managed care, it will still exist in some form. Issues of PA personal lifestyles and healthy role modeling are also discussed.
