Questions remain after panel OKs abortion pill
Article Abstract:
The FDA's Reproductive Health Drugs advisory committee has granted approval for the use of the drug, mifepristone, in performing drug-induced abortions. A survey of physicians who do not perform surgical abortions indicates that they would be willing to use the drug to carry out drug-induced abortions. However, there is a problem for these physicians in that the marketing plan for the drug, by the group Advances in Health Technology, includes a requirement that the physicians be trained in surgical abortions prior to being able to prescribe drug-induced abortions.

A proposed clearinghouse for critical pathways
Article Abstract:
Critical pathways, also know as clinical or care pathways, are written by doctors to help lower costs and standardize practices. In addition, the AMA has been dealing with practice parameters. An electronic bulletin board from the AMA is needed by members for posting pathways concerning common ills, operations, and medical conditions. Although there are objections, examples of critical pathways would be an asset to practicing physicians.
