Race relations
Article Abstract:
Ensuring that people from Britain's ethnic minorities have good access to health care services is as important as the services available. Senior lecturer in race and health at the University of Central Lancashire, England, Carol Baxter feels that health visitors have a duty to target their services to the needs of the particular clients in the communities they serve. She points out that health visitors from the ethnic minorities have often been instrumental in empowering clients in multiracial inner-city areas, but is concerned that the needs of the Chinese community are frequently overlooked.

Invested interest

Commercial sponsorship may provide extra services for patients but nurses should be wary of compromising their integrity. However, professional organisations have recognised possible conflicts. For example, the Royal College of Nursing's new guidelines on sponsorship stress that suitability should dictate product selection.
