Rapidly progressive cervical cancer: the Connecticut experience
Article Abstract:
Rapidly progressive cervical cancer may actually represent cancer that was not diagnosed due to inadequate sampling technique for Papanicolaou smears or inadequate follow-up. A 10-year review of Yale-New Haven Hospital's records and a 5-year review of all cervical cancer cases in Connecticut revealed that most cases of invasive cancer occurring within three years after negative Papanicolaou tests fell into two categories: women in whom the inner cervical canal had not been adequately sampled and women with pain, discharge, and bleeding that was assumed to be postmenopausal symptoms or caused by infection.

The role of ultrasound evaluation in the detection of early-stage epithelial cancer
Article Abstract:
The usefulness of sonography in the detection of early-stage epithelial ovarian cancer in asymptomatic high-risk women who participated in the National Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Program is examined. The study demonstrated the limited value of diagnostic ultrasound examination as an independent modality for the detection of early-stage epithelial ovarian cancer in asymptomatic women who are at increases risk for disease.
