Ready: patients at risk from domestic violence need physicians they can confide in for help

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn (AMA) has mailed out lapel pins to over 8,000 physicians who are members of the National Coalition of Physicians Against Family Violence. The lapel pins have an inscription encouraging patients suffering from family abuse or violence to confide in their physicians for help. Other similar associations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the AMA Alliance, are joining in the effort to combat the scourge of family violence.

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, acted in Nov 1996 do end its voluntary ban on television advertising for liquor. The major networks have decided not to air liquor ads, but some ads have begun to appear on local and cable channels. The American Medical Assn opposes television or radio advertising for liquor and other alcohol products. The reasoning behind that position is explained.
