Realm of the senses
Article Abstract:
A project at Kingston Lodge, Tilworth Grange Hospital, where a dozen people with physical handicaps or sensory disabilities are resident, has proved successful in arousing the residents' senses. The project is based on smells, colours, flowers and plants. The perfume of flowers stimulates those with vision problems and encourages people to move about. There are also a fountain, a bird bath, a bird table and feeding boxes to attract squirrels, birds, hedgehogs and owls. The communication skills of residents have been enhanced, and some who remained indoors are now attracted outside.
