Article Abstract:
UK hospital trusts will have ultimate control over the number of new nursing consultants they promote within the government's nursing strategy. Nursing consultant posts have been designed to allow nurses to attain a higher social and employment position within the National Health Service, without having to leave the traditional nursing role for a more managerial post. Pay guidelines have indicated salaries of up to 40,000 pounds sterling for the title of nurse consultants.

Article Abstract:
Older women may find they are discriminated against in the provision of health services in the UK. Nurses are able to encourage a positive approach to ageing and prevent this discrimination. Women tend to adapt better to growing old than do men since they are more skilled at socializing. Depression can still affect older women and this may be triggered by health problems like arthritis. Women can benefit from advice and treatment in areas such as bone thinning.

Article Abstract:
The UK government needs to reconsider its approach to the provision of care for the elderly, many of whom may live a lot longer than expected but may not be in the best of health. Too much emphasis is being placed on improving life expectancy without considering the consequences of an increasingly aged and sick population which requires ever increasing amounts of medical funding and social support.
