Reconsideration of rifampin: a unique drug for a unique infection
Article Abstract:
The drug rifampin combined with a quinolone antibiotic may be effective in treating staphylococcal infections of orthopedic implants. Infected orthopedic implants are difficult to treat because the bacterium attaches to the prosthesis where it is resistant to antibiotics. Rifampin has greater penetrating ability than some other antibiotics and may be the most effective drug for this infection. However, it must be given with another antibiotic to prevent the bacterium from becoming resistant. A 1998 study found that rifampin and ciprofloxacin were effective in treating prosthesis infections.

Eligibility criteria of randomized controlled trials published in high-impact general medical journals: A systematic sampling review
Article Abstract:
A systematic sampling review was conducted to determine the nature and extent of exclusion criteria among randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in major medical journals. It was observed that the RCTs published in the medical journals did not always clearly report exclusion criteria. Especially, women, children, the elderly, and those with common medical conditions were excluded, suggesting transparent reporting and justification of exclusion criteria in clinical trials.
