Reducing the risk of assault
Article Abstract:
Efforts are being made to highlight the problem of sexual assaults and sexual harassment in psychiatric hospitals and devise ways of dealing with it. The tendency for reports of such incidents to be disbelieved or trivialised has led MIND to establish campaigning organisations to highlight the problem and emphasise the need for staff to be trained in dealing with cases of sexual abuse. A code of practice for staff together with draft guidelines on investigating allegations of sexual abuse involving psychiatric patients have been drawn up by the Sexual Harassment Working Group at the Maudsley Hospital, London, UK.
