Reform fever: what a difference a year makes
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Assn (AMA) has fought for physician input in health care reform. The White House reform team now welcomes physicians' views on health care issues. For example, the American Medical Assn was largely responsible for scuttling the idea of enterprise liability, a reform strategy that would have held hospitals and other medical institutions liable for physician malpractice suits. In addition, the Clintons have learned a great deal about health care. For example, Hillary Clinton has toured the Hawaii health care system, which embodies many of the AMA's ideas for reform.

D.C. doctors, nurses square off over practice privileges
Article Abstract:
Nurses with advanced degrees may claim the right to practice independently from physicians because of amendments to the District of Columbia's Health Occupations Revision Act. Doctors and medical societies are lobbying for nullification of the bill by Congressional oversight committees or by the whole Congress. Opponents claim poor persons would receive second-class care from nurses because of cost considerations.
