Air apparent
Article Abstract:
There is a lack of understanding of the use of oxygen in the treatment of patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Oxygen therapy for sufferers of COPD, which includes emphysema, chronic obstructive bronchitis and chronic asthma, can extend life expectancy by 5-10 years, according to a 1997 report by the British Thoracic Society. Patients need to know that they are not about to die when oxygen is administered, and nurses need to be trained to administer oxygen safely.
