Research developments presented at AIDS meeting
Article Abstract:
Research reports presented at the 1992 International Conference on AIDS included epidemiological studies that show 12 million adults and a million children now suffer from HIV. Also, tuberculosis among HIV patients has increased, especially among the homeless. Authorities hope that Magic Johnson's revelation of his HIV infection will influence young persons to take preventive measures. In addition, researchers are studying immune responses in men who have remained healthy in spite of ten years of HIV infection. Transmission of HIV by mothers to infants is another focus of research.

AIDS meeting to focus on key issues
Article Abstract:
Organizers of the International Conference on AIDS, scheduled to open Jul 19 in Amsterdam, have attempted to address past criticisms in setting up this year's program. This year's conference will be more focused, with emphasis placed on the most significant issues concerning the epidemic. Sessions are scheduled to address the scientific, clinical and social aspects of the disease. The conference may not continue for much longer in its current format; regional conferences have been suggested as a better alternative.

U.S. officials investigating reports of AIDS-like disease
Article Abstract:
Research reports at the 1992 International Conference on AIDS included studies of a disease which resembles AIDS except patients do not have HIV infection. The findings were reported by Jeffrey Laurence, of Cornell Medical College, Sudhir Gupta of the University of California at Irvine, and David Ho, Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, New York City. However, some authorities claim immune disorders of unknown origin have existed for many years.
