Riot-torn practice rebuilding but still not free from crisis
Article Abstract:
The Los Angeles County Medical Assn (LACMA) has helped physician Gerald Fradkoff re-open his practice after his office was destroyed during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. With the help of the Small Business Administration, a Korean-American contractor and the LACMA, Fradkoff has received equipment, an office space and an $87,000 loan. However, although only able to restart his practice recently, the physician still must pay off a previous $65,000 loan, and he failed to qualify for Community Redevelopment Agency funds because his office is located just outside the designated area for the funds.

Riot medicine in shades of black and white
Article Abstract:
Dr. Paul H. Toffel and Dr. Madison F. Richardson, otolaryngologists who practice in Los Angeles, treated Reginald Denny, the truck driver who was saved from being beaten to death during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Richardson, an Afro-American, felt compassion for both rioters and victims. Toffel suffered doubly because his father was killed in the 1965 Watts riot. Both doctors were gratified that their treatment of Denny produced successful results.
