Article Abstract:
Women who develop eclampsia in the third trimester of pregnancy may have a worse outcome than those who develop eclampsia shortly after birth. This was the conclusion of a study of 399 women with eclampsia. Eclampsia is characterized by convulsions that occur during pregnancy, along with kidney and liver failure, neurologic defects, and even death.

Postpartum stroke: a twenty-year experience
Article Abstract:
Most strokes that occur after childbirth are probably not preventable, but fortunately, they are not common. In a study of 20 women who had a postpartum stroke, a cesarean delivery and hypertension during pregnancy were risk factors but conduction anesthesia was not.

Risk factors for abruptio placentae and eclampsia: analysis of 445 consecutively managed women with severe preeclampsia and eclampsia
Article Abstract:
Protein in the urine and elevated blood pressure do not predict the likelihood of abruptio placentae, preeclampsia, or eclampsia, according to a study of 445 pregnant women. Abruptio placentae, preeclampsia, and eclampsia are serious complications of pregnancy.
