Remodeling after stroke
Article Abstract:
Shortly after an ischemic stroke, matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) seem to contribute to subsequent brain damage by proteolitically degrading neurovascular matrix, which may result in brain hemorrhage and neuronal apoptosis. The inhibitors of MMPs in some experimental situations protect against such damage, which has created interest in MMP inhibitors as drug for stroke.

Clearance of amyloid-[beta] by circulating lipoprotein receptors
Article Abstract:
The researchers have shown that soluble circulating low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-1 (sLRP) has provided key endogenous peripheral sink activity for amyloid [beta]-peptide (A[beta]) in humans. The studies have shown that recombinant LRP cluster IV (LRP-IV) can effectively replace native sLRP and clear A[beta].
