STD Syndrome Packets: Improving Syndromic Management of Sexually Transmitted Diseases In Developing Countries
Article Abstract:
Distribution of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatment supply packet may improve STD treatment and prevention efforts in developing countries. Researchers in Hlabisa, South Africa, distributed 4,085 packets containing condoms, STD treatment drugs, and patient information. Nurses who distributed the packets uniformly reported that the packets saved time, improved the supply and distribution of STD supplies, and made STD treatment easier. Most of the patients receiving the kits said that they would buy the packets if they were inexpensive.

Effect of Coinfection With STDs and of STD Treatment on HIV Shedding in Genital-Tract Secretions
Article Abstract:
Some sexually transmitted diseases increase the amount of HIV in the genital tract. An evaluation of six studies showed that gonorrhea in particular increased HIV shedding but chlamydia did not. Treatment reduces the amount of virus in the genital tract.
