Safety and efficacy of pramipexole in early Parkinson disease: a randomized dose-ranging study
Article Abstract:
The drug pramipexole appears to be safe and effective for the short-term relief of the symptoms of early Parkinson's disease. This drug mimics the action of dopamine, which is deficient in Parkinson's' disease. Researchers randomly assigned 264 patients with early Parkinson's disease to take varying doses of pramipexole or a placebo. Most of the patients were able to complete the 10-week study and the patients taking pramipexole experienced an average improvement of 20% in their symptoms.

Surgical Treatment of Parkinson Disease. (Contempo Updates Linking Evidence and Experience)
Article Abstract:
The surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease involves either removing the damaged brain tissue or implanting electrodes to stimulate the brain. Most surgery is performed on the globus pallidus interna, the subthalamic nucleus, or the Ventralis intermedius nucleus of the thalamus.

Pramipexole vs Levodopa as Initial Treatment for Parkinson Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Article Abstract:
Levodopa appears to be more effective in treating Parkinson's disease than pramipexole, although pramipexole has fewer adverse side effects. This was the conclusion of a study of 301 patients with early Parkinson's disease.
